Whether it's runway shows, magazine editorials, social media posts, street style, nostalgic trends, fashion news, brand collaborations, new collection drops or cool ad campaigns; ‘All The Vibes’ is a place where I let you know all of the fashionable things that should be on your radar.
So sit back, relax and enjoy! Let's get into round #18.
It's Barbie season, baby. Yes, the movie of the summer has already inspired and engineered pink-heavy looks across my social media feed, and Margot Robbie covering the June 2023 issue of American Vogue is everything. Styled by the great Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, global contributing fashion editor-at-large, and shot by Ethan James Green, I'm now hyped for a movie I previously had no interest in. And thats that on the power of a good editorial spread.
So, in probably the most hotly anticipated creative director/designer debut of the year, Pharrell's first collection for the house of Vuitton will show at 8.30 pm on the opening day of Paris Men’s Fashion Week (June 20), according to the provisional calendar shared by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. Louis Vuitton has also released its Spring/Summer 23 collection, designed by the in-house studio team, and if I could I'd cop the camouflage fleece tracksuit bottoms and the checkered matching jacket/trouser set that screams look at me but don't look at me.
The 2023 edition of Australia Fashion Week turnt up and turned out. From Vogueing on the runway to drag queen models and First Nation designers, this time round showcased the best of what the fashion talent down under has to offer.
Is circular fashion a fantasy? As the environmental impact of fashion continues to ramp up and create more harm and environmental damage, the Business of Fashion looks at a handful of fashion brands that are pioneering new science-based frameworks that will hopefully address their impact on nature.
You'll have heard the news by now, Edward Enniful is stepping down from his role as editor-in-chief of British Vogue next year, taking up a new position as a global creative and cultural adviser at Vogue and editorial adviser at British Vogue. But don't get it twisted, there's more to the story than meets the eye. It seems like Enniful is distancing himself from the Vogue brand to pursue other "creative projects" but what does that mean? And why now? For someone who brought British Vogue forward leaps and bounds in his time there, embedding its cultural relevance into the fashion landscape once again, it odd that he's leaving now. Does Wintour have a case of the green-eyed monster as Enniful has cultural clout she'll never attain? On a separate note, he'll be replaced by a head of content and this shouts reds flags and Conde Nast cutbacks... as in expecting someone to do the role of EIC/digital director/strategy head but paying them way less than they're owed. Let's see how this plays out.
New kids on the K-pop block, New Jeans, are taking the fashion industry by storm. Hanni became a brand ambassador for Gucci less than three months after the band's debut, the whole group signed with Levi's as brand ambassadors, Louis Vuitton tapped Hyein as a global ambassador, Danielle is the ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent beauty as well as Burberry, Minji is the global brand ambassador for Chanel across beauty, fashion and watches, and Dior named Haerin a house ambassador for jewellery, fashion and beauty - whew. The girls cover a special limited edition issue of Highsnobiety Magazine in their first international print cover story.
Elena Velez is one of many young designers that may be heading for bankruptcy after struggling as a young, independent designer. Named emerging designer of the year at the CFDA awards she's definitely one to watch, but her transparency about the issues she faces highlights how hard it is for young designers to make a living and the lack of support systems in place that uphold creative industries.
The sari is slowly but surely infiltrating the fashion scene, and has been spotted everywhere from the Met Gala to Cannes and has even been worn by the likes of Gigi Hadid. A new exhibition at the Design Museum in London examines its cultural heritage and contemporary appeal.
Clarks has its first guest creative director and it's none other than Martine Rose. Growing up in the 90s/early noughties London Clarks was THE brand you shopped at when looking for school shoes, so I can't wait to see how she continues its current cool trajectory and winning streak. WWD has reported that three shoes she has designed will debut during her upcoming June men’s London.
If you haven't come across Bretman Rock on YouTube, Instagram, and all of the other big socials, where have you been? His rapid career trajectory to star and household name has been an interesting journey to witness, and he covers the latest issue of Vogue Philippines in a Valentino haute couture moiré tailored suit and sequin tank no less. It’s a beautiful shoot as we see a different, gentler side from the social media sensation.
Barbie Ferreira is my favourite Euphoria star and I've never even watched the show. How's that possible? It just is, so don't ask. Anyways, I'm totally into her cover shoot for Elle Canada and I can't wait to see what she does with her career post-hyped-up-Gen-Z-TV-show-that-gives-all-the-feels-and-more.
Tbilisi’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is back, and the Georgian event saw the fashion elite descend on the capital in droves for a weekend of fashion ludicrousy. The street style of Tbilisi’s cool kids was also something to behold. Think messy, imaginative, and unexpected.
The Dover Street Market archive sale is the stuff of industry dreams and nightmares. Trust me when I say it gets messy, real messy. And who can blame people that love a bargain when Comme des Garçons is up to 70% off? I just can't put myself through the stress of elbowing people out of the way to secure the bag. Dazed captures some of the best looks from the hot ticket event.
Okay, so, apparently London is getting its own version of the Met Gala... I kid you not, Anna Wintour is planning some kind of theatrical fashion show that'll see the likes of Stormzy, Naomi Campbell and Sadiq Khan, yes the Mayor of London, in attendance. I mean it is for a good cause, and hopefully, it'll raise some money for the London art scene which has experienced cutback after cutback after cutback. But lol, we don't do so much glitz and glam over here. We're the kind of people that get down and dirty, so let's see if this show, set to take place September 14th, can live up to its potential.
Gucci took to the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul to showcase its Resort 2024 show. Reaffirming the city as a cultural capital and one that fashion should keep an eye on, holographic sets, futuristic skateboards and baggy jeans and lust-worthy handbags, this was the last collection from the luxury heavyweight before new creative director Sabato De Sarno's debut in September.
