We all knew Pharrell was going to come in swinging at Louis Vuitton, and he's doing exactly that in abundance. Something the industry wasn't ready for/expecting? Rihanna to front the SS24 Vuitton Men's campaign, bump baring and all.
According to The Telegraph writer Harriet Walker, fast fashion may be on its way out. And good riddance. The USP of cheap clothes is falling out of favour, with many fast fashion retailers' earnings plummeting in recent months. The cost of living crisis and tightening budgets does mean that fast fashion won't disappear entirely, buts it's comforting to know that more conscious forms of consumption are taking over.
Ms Philo, I think it's very rude of you to keep us waiting on tenterhooks for your namesake label to release. But when it does come, I'm sure it'll be the stuff my fashion-filled dreams of a bygone Celine era are made of. Apparently, Philo's hotly anticipated signature collection will include RTW, leather goods, jewellery, eyewear and footwear. It’s due in September, so keep a lookout and one finger on that add-to-basket button.
Iconic choreographer and Riri's right-hand woman Parris Goebel teamed up with Nike to celebrate the power of movement through an immersive dance experience, “Goddess Awakened,” that honoured the strength of womanhood.
Jennifer Coolidge can do no wrong in my eyes, and yes I am fangirling hard over here. Coolidge was featured as one of the cover stars of GQ's Heroes series, and her editorial spread is the best out of the bunch. Knight in shining armour? She did that. Deep sea goddess? She also did that. Renaissance heroine? Yes, she did that too. And a bunch of other cool shit.
Central Saint Martins graduate Harry Pontefract has launched his label, Ponte, which plays with ideas of eroticism and sexuality through a surreal and subversive lens. Worth noting that Pontefract turned down commissions from Kim Kardashian and Rihanna so he could learn the ropes of the industry properly by taking a job at Loewe.
Oslo’s International Library of Fashion collects press releases, cover letters and label tags as a way of documenting parts of fashion history that often get overlooked and discarded. This vast library in the centre of Oslo is solely focused on recognising fashion’s print ephemera and launched in 2022 as part of Oslo’s new National Museum.
Vetements really said go big or go home. For SS24 the lineup was massively oversized, with some pieces sizing up to 16 times larger than the brand's already larger-than-life silhouettes. And if you are after a juicy interview with the brains behind the brand, aka Guram Gvasalia, the younger brother of Demna Gvasalia, the guy behind Balenciaga, then let me point you in the direction of the New York Times interview by Vanessa Friedman.
If you haven't watched The Last of Us yet, then where have you been? For the July 2023 issue of British Vogue, Bella Ramsey is interviewed about how they have become one of the most in-demand overnight sensations to grace our screens this year. Also, watch the damn show. It's gory and great.
Lagos-born stylist Ugo Mozie has become the person for men in the fashion sphere to call if they want to make a statement with their wardrobe. Fashionista speaks to Mozie to find out how he went from giving friends fashion advice in school, to dressing music royalty like Maluma, and his mission to change the narrative around African fashion.
I don't know if this is true or not - hugely disappointing if it is - but apparently Naomi Campbell is launching a collaboration with Pretty Little Thing. I’m not sure what this high fashion queen and icon was thinking, all I know is that if this is indeed fact rather than fiction then the dollar signs must have been too good for Campbell to turn down.
Another day, another social media app that we've all got to get our heads around. Newcomer to the party is Threads, a Twitter rival launched by Zuckerberg and his cronies, which at its core is a text-based conversation app. The Business of Fashion takes a look at what this latest social media platform launch means for the fashion industry.
