April 2023: Best In Fashion
So much is always going on in the world of fashion, from celebrity outfits that go viral to new product drops and brand collaborations, the fashion clock is constantly ticking and it's intriguing to see what will come next.
As always, have a look at my favourite celebrity fashion, street style looks, and the new-in product drops/brand launches that I'm excited about.
Celebrity fashion
As a previous Formula 1 fan, I can't believe I haven't spoken about Lewis Hamilton's style on here before, but here we are. The 7x world champ has a certain knack for using the racing grid as his runway, and this Rick Owens all black ensemble is a testament to the carefully curated style he seems to be all about. The sleeveless knit is a great way to transition into the spring season, and the oversized parachute-style trousers and chunky boots feel very Rick - the look was put together by Hamilton's stylist Eric J. McNeal.
Katy Perry has accessorising nailed down to a tee. The blacked-out glasses and the matching coffee cup outfit shout motocore, the latest trend to take over social media feeds thanks to the popularity of Netflix's docu-series Drive to Survive and the renewed interest in Formula One, which means the best of this biker style meets structured silhouettes meets latest TikTok aesthetic is yet to come. With this look, it's the Kill Bill jacket that wins for me.
Our lives would all be a lot more boring without a little bit of Jonah Hill to brighten up our day. If you needed convincing to buy a pair of Uggs, well Mr Hill may just be the man to do it - thankfully I have a pair stashed away at the back of my closet which haven't seen the light of day in years. This errand vibe outfit is unmatched, and the facial hair is very much giving Aristotle has entered the chat but make it street style.
Street style
With over a week of runway shows, exhibitions, and showroom appointments at the first IRL Shanghai fashion week since 2020, people went all out. I like this updated take on Y2K fashion which blends a little bit of fuzzy outerwear, with a babydoll lace-lined slip and heavily faded denim, coupled with a Gucci bag to top it all off.
If all else fails, a head-to-toe black outfit should do the trick. I love the fedora hat, the tailored trousers and the chunky black shoes in this look, but what stands out the most to me about this outfit is the crossover blazer that nips in at the waist with the sweater thrown over the top. It's giving I’m cool but I don't have to try too hard, you know?
Tokyo street style always brings it. You can count on the Japanese capital to go all out when it comes to daring and innovative style, they don't hold back and it's refreshing to see this daring approach to getting dressed. The colour palette of this look is spot on, as is the way the cropped structured blazer falls just so above the oversized denim parachute skirt, and the stripey tie and Nike Dunks round off the 'fit just so.
New-in product drops/brand launches
I think this is the leather jacket my dreams are made of. This piece from the @whodecideswar SS23 collection is an ode to craftsmanship and quality on a supreme level, and I dig the 21st-century take on stained glass windows that all fit an underwater theme.
This year Rolex said go big or go home. Evident through their 2023 lineup Rolex debuted new iterations of the Cosmograph Daytona, with a bunch of new watch face colourways that are surprising and unexpected from such a traditional heritage brand.
To celebrate 150 years of the 501, Levis tapped talent from all around the world to reimagine their iconic denim. Most recently they teamed up with @sevali, who specializes in upcycled couture, showing the versatility of the denim staple by reworking it to show off some of its best elements.
