Army Core For 2024 + Your Grandad Dresses Cooler Than You
Khaki colour palettes are where it's at, fashion food cafes enter Indonesia and Michèle Lamy is the people's Beyoncé
Welcome to ICYMI, an ad hoc edition of the Fashion Tingz newsletter that's part curated product guide, part events you need to know about, part fashion things you may have missed… and 100% a good time.
As an ex-fashion editor and personal stylist, I see a lot of cool fashion shit floating around the digital depths of the Internet.
Now, this stuff may seem kind of out there, kind of obscure, or kind of boring — it all depends on who you ask.
The mood of these curated guides will ebb and flow depending on whatever’s going on in the fashion realm, and whatever I’m vibing with.
Either way, it’s all that good good.
On today's agenda:
High fashion patchwork jackets perfect for a bodega run
Pasta hair bows for the coquette-loving girlies
Lamb chop and pizza slice cafes for the fashionable foodies
Forget Y2K, sci-fi tech-inspired Y3K is where it’s at
And a ton more.
The Khaki Edit
Everywhere I look I see some iteration of the Tabi and I’m pleased because they are iconic, but at times I kind of think… have we taken this a step too far? Esenes Worldwide and RicePaddyDaddy are dropping tabi buttas and I love this for them, it's giving fashion bodega criminal and why not.
It's not a surprise to anyone around here, but I’ve been an Aimé Leon Dore fan ever since I bought one of their sweatshirts in CPH back in 2019. Their second drop for the SS24 season features this reversible uptown patchwork jacket that has the New York skyline on the back, very Grandpacore.
The Denim Tears ‘Kiss My Grits’ 2024 collection is not for everyone - looking at the chicken bone necklace - but since the brand's 2019 inception, they’ve always cleverly highlighted the experiences of the Black diaspora through their designs. The hoodie and khaki pants are calling my name.
Bomber jackets are charming in their simplicity, you can have a roster in your wardrobe of various colours and they’ll never really go out of style. This Patta Jet Bomber Jacket gives off exactly that type of vibe, it's subtle and makes a statement without having to say too much.
The Pop Luxury Edit
Sweet, romantic, and a little bit playful, the 2020s coquette aesthetic is flirty and romantic and hyper-feminine. It's not typically my cup of tea, but I think this pasta hair bow by Gab Bois is ironic, satirical, and dares to do something different - pasta is also one of my all-time favourite foods, so yeah, I’m into it.
Jacquemus and Nike's link-ups are always a sell-out, so when campaign imagery dropped featuring track star Sha’Carri Richardson there was no doubt in my mind that this was going to be the case once again. The high fashion meets sportswear dress is very high fashion meets athleisure.
Stéphane Ashpool, founder of Pigalle, has designed the French National Team’s Olympic outfits and even if they don't win any medals, they should definitely take home a prize for being the best dressed at the games. The Americana-inspired oversized leather jacket is very, very dreamy.
KidSuper’s SS24 lookbook is incredible, and it's a prime example of how fashion brands can do cross-generational campaigns and do them well while sticking to their brand DNA. I mean, who wouldn't want to look as cool as this guy when they hit pensioner age? Big thumbs up from me.
You should stop by…
Los Angeles: designer Tory Burch and restaurateur and Opening Ceremony co-founder Humberto Leon have collaborated on a new Tory Burch concept store on Melrose Avenue. The façade and interior of the new shop feature the work of photographer Walter Schels, and it's open until the end of 2024.
Los Angeles: I'm a big fan of The Frankie Shop and have a few of their pieces in my wardrobe as their laid-back designs never fail to disappoint. Nice to see that they've opened a pop-up in West Hollywood dubbed “The Meeting Room,” with a Demi Moore campaign celebrating the launch.
Jakarta: have you ever wondered what a lamp chop or pizza slice by Coach tastes like? Well, if you’re ever in Jakarta, Indonesia, now is your chance to find out. The New York-based brand opened the Coach Restaurant and Coach Coffee Shop at the Grand Indonesia Mall in March 2024.
Over on TikTok…
As Savoir Flair said, Michèle Lamy is the peoples Beyoncé. The fashion people that is.
I’m really into this zine by Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta’s SS24 collection, all hail the return of print media!
Yes yes, we all know about Y2K. But Y3K signals fashions futuristic, sci-fi meets tech-inspired worldview.
