Barbie's Hypebeast Era + Afrobeats Approved Collabs
Pink, pink and more pink streetwear inspired 'fits, celeb-approved hooker heels, gorgeous girlie vibes and more
Welcome to ICYMI, an ad hoc edition of the Fashion Tingz newsletter that's part curated product guide, part events you need to know about, part fashion places you should visit… but 100% a good time.
As an ex-fashion editor and personal stylist, I see a lot of cool fashion shit floating around the digital depths of the Internet.
Now, this stuff may seem kind of out there, kind of obscure, or kind of boring — it all depends on who you ask.
Welcome to ICYMI.
The mood of these curated guides will ebb and flow depending on whatever’s going on in the fashion realm, and whatever I’m vibing with. Either way, it’s all that good good.
On today's agenda:
The Barbie effect gets a little souped-up, hypebeast love
New York Yankee hats enter their cowboy era
Gorgeous, gorgeous girl vibes only in the form of it-girl handbags
Shades so good they're Burna Boy approved
And a ton more.
Alan Crocetti's eyewear is brilliant. I was introduced to the designer by a friend and I've been keeping an eye on this brand ever since. I love these pink shark sunglasses inspired by the '60s mod style, and I think they'd fit nicely in my wardrobe — Xmas is coming and my birthday is ten days after btw.
Sticking with the hot girl pink vibe, these Me Dolly Patent Red Sole Sandals by Christian Louboutin are full-on peep toe princess and I like them. They could be a little bit slutty, a little bit hooker, but either way, they are on point — maybe that's why Margot Robbie wore them on the Barbie press tour.
You'll be hard-pressed to find this 2008, Japan exclusive, ‘Sakura Pink’ croisiere 35 bag from Goyard available to buy, but if you do, you know where to find me. If I wanted to start a Barbie-inspired collection, this is what I'd get. I'm feeling the pink, pink, and more pink hue.
This camo puffer from A Bathing Ape isn't exactly camouflage and you couldn't hide in plain sight in it, but I like it either way. Imagine if Margot Robbie was a hype beast in Barbie, then this is what she'd wear. It’s also reversible if the hot pink vibe isn't your cup of tea.
Have you ever seen a Yankee hat with an infinite brim? Yeah, me neither. But I'm into it. Of course this was spotted on the New York subway, of course it was. I don't think I've ever seen anything that screams New York to me more than this hat, if you know more about who designed it hit me up.
These shoes from SEAO-KR are so good. Maybe that's why Kendrick Lamar was spotted in them and maybe why they've found an audience on TikTok. I like how they are a cross between sneakers and dress shoes which levels up the styling possibilities, now this Korean-based label is firmly on my radar.
BEAMS and Arc'teryx have dropped a FW23 collection full of colour-block gems. This collection is based on the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi which means there's beauty in imperfections, but there's nothing wrong with any of these pieces. If I had the choice I'd pick up the jacket and wear it year round.
I discovered Chicago-based designer Jackson Napier on Twitter and I'm so glad I did. The silhouette of these pants, the curved layered detail, the stacked pockets and the fact that they can zip off at the knee are genius. So, so many ways you can wear them.
The things I would do for this Prada bag — as long as it's faux fur because I don't get down like that. It's vintage, it's it-girl, its main character energy, it's one of a kind, its gorgeous gorgeous girls only. And it belongs in my wardrobe.
Part formal, part casual, but complete corporate dystopia vibes, these brown boyfriend style derbys from Miu Miu are the type of thing I imagine you'd wear at a stuffy private school if you got to choose your own dress code. Or at least, that's where I'd imagine myself wearing them.
Who knew Jean Paul Gautier collaborated with Burna Boy, who knew. This exclusive eyewear collection was the artist's first foray into high-fashion and it paid off. The musician selected his favourite archive eyewear from the 90s and two exclusive models were also designed for this release. Yes please.
The Ultimo 2023 collection from Palace is full of outerwear, sweaters, polos, graphic t-shirts and accessories that are warm and cold-weather ready. I like the off-centre zipper detail on the WINDSTOPPER soft shell jacket — it's subtle but elevates the piece. Sometimes, it's the little details that matter.
