Fashion round-ups are such a fun piece of content to create, but for this bonus post I wanted to do things a little differently. Below you'll find some of my favourite ‘fits from the world of cinema, TV, magazines and of course the runways.Â
The fashion sphere is a never ending cycle of cultural and stylish influences that are constantly reinterpreted and expressed in different ways, the looks we see in glossy pages and on big screens manage to trickle their way down to us - the consumers - sooner or later. Before you know it, you could be dressing like you just stepped off the set of your favourite show - but would you, if you could?
Movie fashion
The Crown recreated one of the most iconic fashion moments in history for season 5. You guessed it, Princess Diana's revenge dress look is spot on. The LBD was originally worn by Diana at a 1994 gala appearance at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens; the thigh-high slit and off-the-shoulder neckline definitely made a statement.
Lady Jessica’s jewelled orange dress in Dune has to be one of recent cinemas standout outfits. The vibrant hue, the cape that flutters in the breeze, the embellishment and luxurious golden veil symbolise wealth and power - and overall it's just good fashion.
Gaga in head to toe Gucci for House of Gucci? Yes. I haven't watched the movie yet, but from what I've seen this appears to be one of the looks that resonated the most. Embrace the monogram Gaga, embrace it.
TV fashion
High school looked a little - or a lot - different when I attended, but the Gen Z fashion in Euphoria seems to be striking a chord as the cast's ensembles brought in over 1.3 million searches for related fashion and beauty looks over the past year. I won't lie, I'm on board with it (even though I'm unsure how much of it I can actually pull off).
Okay, I Ioved The Queen's Gambit for way more than its fashion. The underdog storyline, the character evolution and the breaking barriers in a traditionally male dominated industry made for refreshing viewing. My favourite outfit has to be this simple black turtleneck number, which Beth Harman - Anya Taylor-Joy - pulls off with an effortless grace and nonchalance.
Pose season 1 episode 3 gave us this ice queen intricate weaving and webbed tiara moment, costume designer Analucia McGorty really turned it all the way up each and every season.
There was some serious 70s power dressing in The Serpent, and an era that produced such a memorable aesthetic is bound to still be sartorially influencing us decades later. Power moves only.
Magazine editorials
Doja Cat for the January 2022 cover of Rolling Stone. Love the mermaid tresses, love the flapper-esque showgirl outfit, it's giving ethereal princess rap royalty vibes - is this what 21st century fame looks like?
Harry Styles has been having a fashion ‘moment’ for a while now, and his meteoric rise to stylish stardom shows no signs of slowing down just yet. For the winter 2021 issue of Dazed Styles wore a full custom Gucci look designed by friend and collaborator Alessandro Michele, with a peep of nipple showing of course.
Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney for Paper Magazine is what I'd want to wear if I ever had the pleasure of going horse riding. The taffeta pink fabric coupled with the heart embellishment coupled with thigh high frilly boots have ranchers quaking.
Runway fashion
Jeff Goldblum: fashion zaddy, icon, hero (in-depth newsletter coming on this soon). Goldblum closed Prada’s menswear show at Milan Fashion Week and I can't help but think the casting for this show was genius. Actors Kyle MacLachlan, Asa Butterfield, and Ashton Sanders were also part of the show - Raf Simons work at Prada is making the brand feel fresh and new.
Schiaparelli kicked off Paris Couture Week with a fashionably futuristic theme, managing to retain the grace and elegance of a couture house while sticking to their surrealist roots.
Virgil Abloh’s final collection for Louis Vuitton was shown back in January, and in true Virgil fashion the imaginative and childlike wonder he was known for was evident through his designs: cartoon characters on knitwear and hoodies, as well as a reinterpretation of the Louis Vuitton monogram. Iconic always.
This was very satisfying. Merci. The dune fashion is so on point! (But I still can't get over how Harry Styles can rock nipples blazing but women's nipps are soooo sexualized.)
