Debossed Double Denim + Crafted Croissant Heels
The double denim mood lives on, embellished, bedazzled accessories and Poggy's favourite Tokyo fashion neighbourhood
Welcome to ICYMI, an ad hoc edition of the Fashion Tingz newsletter that's part curated product guide, part events you need to know about, part fashion things you may have missed… and 100% a good time.
As an ex-fashion editor and personal stylist, I see a lot of cool fashion shit floating around the digital depths of the Internet.
Now, this stuff may seem kind of out there, kind of obscure, or kind of boring — it all depends on who you ask.
The mood of these curated guides will ebb and flow depending on whatever’s going on in the fashion realm, and whatever I’m vibing with.
Either way, it’s all that good good.
On today's agenda:
Victorian-esque, Bridgerton debossed denim for the coquettes
Croissant heels that are a party for the feet and mouth
Behind the scenes at cult handcrafted brand Chopova Lowena
Harajuku as the neighbourhood for Tokyo fashionistas
And a ton more.
The Extra Denim Edit
The Jean Paul Gaultier and Shayne Oliver capsule collection has landed. I repeat, the JPG and Shayne Oliver capsule collection has landed. Instead of going by the haute couture codes JPG is known for, Oliver added an edgy, contemporary twist built for an everyday wearable context.
I love cargo pants and denim, so I'm not surprised that the zip-off cargo jeans by LỰU ĐẠN caught my eye. Full-length denim for the colder weather, and shorts when the temperature starts rising. The pull tie cords at the bottom add a nice element, allowing the wearer to change the shape and silhouette.
I hate to say it, but New Balance may have overtaken Nike as my go-to sneaker brand. Every pair of sneakers I have from them are instantly comfortable, and who wouldn't want that? This pink dipped neutral-toned pair are delightful, and would look really, really good in my closet.
Mame Kurogouchi first came onto my radar when the designer collabed with Uniqlo, and I've been quietly following along with the brand’s journey ever since. This debossed, curved, high-collar, Victorian-esque denim jacket is exactly what I imagine someone from Bridgerton would wear in 2024.
The Bedazzled Edit
I don't know about you, but all across my social feeds I'm seeing people customise and upcycle their designer handbags and I think it's ushering in an era of luxury self-personalisation. @nasty_lyubimova is one designer at the heart of this shift, and I may have to put my order in soon.
Crocs here, crocs there, crocs everywhere. It's Crocs world, and we're just living in it. This time around, Simone Rocha has lent the footwear giant her whimsical touch. Opulent, with a dash of practicality thrown in for good measure, this pair of trail clogs are very gorpcore but make it high fashion.
Eyewear is that accessory that can dial up a look, and it’s one of the few sectors pushing forward in terms of innovation and experimentation. Bottega Veneta, courtesy of the @newbottega Instagram account, has debuted a pair of aviator meets sci-fi spectacles where the lenses go around the frame.
Bet you didn't know you needed a pair of croissant heels until now. Do you eat them? Do you wear them? Does it matter? Anything in the name of fashion. Regardless, fashion and food's love affair shows no signs of slowing as Gab Bois continues to plate up some real fashionable goodness.
You should stop by…
London: Christie’s auction house in my home city of London has just announced that it's putting up over 200 pieces from Dame Vivienne Westwood's wardrobe up for sale this summer, including pieces from some of the earliest and hardest to find Westwood collections.
London: okay, so we all know that Aimé Leon Dore is very much a New York, IYKYK kind of brand, but London has become the brand's unexpected second home. If you're ever in the capital, I’d recommend hitting up their flagship store in Soho and visiting their cafe next door for an iced matcha latte.
New York: if you want an example of guerilla marketing that works, then Corteiz is the brand to reference. The ‘GREAT DENIM EXCHANGE’ in NYC had fans queuing around the block, and people were treated to a pair of Corteiz jeans in exchange for an old pair of denim. We love a sustainable king.
Over on TikTok…
If I ever get married, I want Firme Atelier to make my wedding dress. Top tier vibes and the designs go crazy.
Ever wanted to know how Chopova Lowena make their cult knits? British Vogue takes us behind the scenes at their studio.
After spending two weeks in Japan, I can confirm Harajuku is that fashion neighbourhood. Don't believe me? Tokyo fashion king Poggy confirms it.
