If you ever find yourself in London, Argentinian designer Lucila Safdie has been hosting a film club at Genesis Cinema, East London’s beloved arthouse venue. Known for her cinematic and intimate campaigns, this feels like the natural next step in building out Safdie’s creative universe.

Here’s one I didn’t see coming, Addison Rae is planting her feet firmly in the high fashion sphere by starring in Saint Laurent’s new film series As Time Goes By. Directed by the genius that is Nadia Lee Cohen, other starlets such as Chloë Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Joey King also feature.

At times it can seem as if fashion creativity is at a standstill. No sense of newness, everything starts to look like brands have adopted a copy-and-paste approach to things, and it all bleeds into a sea of sameness. But not if you are Jacquemus, whose holiday campaign BTS is a sight to behold.

Tokyo: Lemaire has made its debut in Japan with the opening of its first flagship store in Tokyo. Housed in a renovated 1960s private residence, the store is accompanied by a serene zen garden and chill vibe, marking the brand’s third flagship location globally. It’s giving elegant, understated luxury.

Seoul: Fear of God's permanent store in Seoul is interior goals, exuding a minimalist aesthetic that balances simplicity and sophistication. The clean and crisp store layout lets the clothes take centre stage, creating a gallery-like atmosphere that you want to spend time immersing yourself in.

In case you need reminding of the pitfalls of fast fashion, look no further than ecological manager Joseph Ayesu showing the devasting impact fast fashion cast-offs have on a beach in Accra, Ghana.

@guardianDo you ever wonder where all our fast fashion cast-offs end up? In Ghana, Joseph Ayesu has seen the beaches in the capital city where he grew up become increasingly choked by the weight of fast fashion waste disproportionately ending up on its shores from countries like the UK, US and China. “Instead of fishes, [fishermen] are catching clothes,” Ayesu says. The west African country is one of the world’s largest importers of secondhand clothing from the global north, which is known locally as “obroni wawu” – meaning “dead white man’s clothes”. Ayesu and his team at The Or Foundation, an Accra-based non-profit trying to tackle textile waste in Ghana, have headed to the city’s beach every week for the last year to try and shift the “mountains of clothing”. They collect an average of 25 tonnes of waste clothing each time. But their progress comes in the face of increasing amounts of fast fashion ending up on their shores. By 2030, global clothing consumption is projected to rise by 63% to 102 million tons from 62 million tonnes in 2019 – equivalent to more than 500 billion additional T-shirts – according to the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee published in 2019. To tackle what they call “waste colonialism”, The Or Foundation is calling for the top 20 brands found in Ghana’s waste stream to publish how many garments they produce each year, with a deadline of Black Friday in November.
