Pooches Are 'En Vogue' + Fashion As A Social Science
Magazines using pets as fashion clickbait, oldie-but-goodie fashion documentaries and literary 'it girls'
Welcome to ICYMI, an ad hoc edition of Fashion Tingz that’s part read/watch/listen recommendations, part places you need to visit, part fashion things you may have missed… and 100% a good time.
As an ex-fashion editor and personal stylist, I see a lot of cool fashion shit floating around the digital depths of the Internet.
Now, this stuff may seem kind of out there, kind of obscure, or kind of boring — it all depends on who you ask.
The mood of these curated guides will ebb and flow depending on whatever’s going on in the fashion realm, and whatever I’m vibing with.
Either way, it’s all that good good.
On today's agenda:
Fashion animals and the era of doggy Vogue
America's Next Top Model inspired films in panic mode
The trickle-up effect and fashion as a social science
And a ton more.

Delve deeper with expert fashion analysis and commentary…
Are animals fashionable? Should they be chowing down on gourmet food, flying on private jets and starring on the cover of Vogue? Have they become the latest ticket to being a hot commodity?
of Haute Garbage pens some thoughts on the role animals play in crafting fashion narratives. This post struck a chord, especially with someone like myself who comes from a working-class background (something I am proud of).
of Esque poses the question: can you be poor in the fashion world? It's a complex question that raises very valid talking points. Food for thought.Personal style is imploding upon itself as social media continues to rebrand and recontextualise how we should be getting dressed, jumping on trends without giving them much thought.
of The Molehill gets into the nitty gritty of etiquette content, manners-maxxing and fashion satire.WATCH
Here’s an excuse for some fashion-induced screen time…
Notebooks on Cities and Clothes is a 1989 documentary or "diary film" as director Win Wender calls it, and is all about cult designer Yohji Yamamoto and his creative process. It covers everything from topics such as craft, identity, and cinema in the digital age.
Just putting it out there, there is no Louis Vuitton Don quite like Marc Jacobs. I said what I said. Jacobs held the title of creative director at the luxury house for 16 years, and French documentary filmmaker Löic Prigent gave us a peek into what it takes to assemble an LV collection a decade into Jacobs's reign.
If fashion films are more your thing then let me point you in the direction of The Neon Demon. Elle Fanning plays a model clinching her way to the top to become the next big thing; the story paints a vivid picture of the modelling industry, its artificial nature, and the lengths wannabe models will go to.

Nike, the one-time kingpin of sportswear, is falling off course. On The Debrief podcast by The Business of Fashion, executive editor Brian Baskin and senior correspondent Sheena Butler-Young sat down with sports correspondent Daniel-Yaw Miller to see where everybody's favourite tick went wrong.
One of my favourite podcasts to binge-listen to, ICYMI by Slate, did an episode dedicated to two headlining stories surrounding AI in fashion and AI in advertising. From Baggu’s collaboration with Collina Strada to the internet’s reaction to a bad Toys R Us commercial, AI overlords take note.
An oldie but goodie, this fashion adjacent podcast episode from Stuff You Should Know About gets into zoot suits as an act of political resistance and defiance. And in case you didn't know, Â the Los Angeles City Council banned wearing a zoot suit in the aftermath of the riots. Tsk tsk.
You should stop by…
London: Goodhood is one of those cult London streetwear stores that IYKYK. The brand has gained a reputation among the hipster elite, and Millennials such as myself are known to frequent its doors regularly. The new store is big enough to host events and experiences, plus it looks very, very vibey.
Seoul: when Human Made opened their first official store in Seoul, I saw post after post of the grand opening and all of the parties that came with it. NIGO is a fashion maverick ain't no doubt about it, and with his buddy Pharrell now being an official brand advisor, I’m sure it’ll be only good things to come.
New York: Chief Marketing Officer at Acne Studios and founder of CLIMAX, Isabella Burley, is a force to be reckoned with and has just opened a shop front in NYC off the back of a successful collaboration with Chopova Lowena. It blends fashion with a certain literary 'it girl' ness.
Over on TikTok…
Fashion really is that deep, viewing it through a social science lens will help you to see just that. Queue the trickle-up effect.
Set design is something that doesn't get spoken about enough, and Bureau Betak is the GOAT.
