After writing up this essay about Badgalriri’s maternity style and the evolution of pregnancy dressing/the censorship of women's bodies, it got me thinking about how our fashion sense and relationship with clothing changes as we age.
Have you experienced any life-changing events that have made you rethink your attitude towards how you dress? Have you noticed any subtle changes in your approach to fashion that have occurred after a big life shift?
I’d love to hear about your unique experiences, make sure to comment in the thread with your thoughts.
Definitely pregnancy and becoming a mom impacted my fashion choices. But most recently, I stopped dieting and have gained weight. I now have a more curvy body which is making me rethink what I think is “acceptable” fashion for bigger bodies IG model @lateciat has definitely helped me embrace my new body and get inspired for new looks and ideas for clothes. It’s a journey for sure!!
I think the fact that our bodies are constantly changing and evolving means that our relationship with fashion and clothing is bound to always be in a state of constant flux - but that can be part of the fun of it!
Changing cities made a big difference for me. While living in Toronto I wouldn't leave the house without looking polished (always wearing makeup). I live in a different city now, and I'm okay leaving the house with yoga pants. There are a lot of tech workers where I live, and their dress code is very casual so I feel like I fit in just fine hah.
Oooo I hadn’t thought of the impact living in different cities could have on our fashion choices! I know when I commute into London I dress differently to when I am out and about in my local suburban area, I find it really interesting that we - as a society - want to (for the most part) imitate the dress sense of those around us in order to fit in. But that doesn’t mean we have to!
