"the new normal" that is being sold to gullible consumers, something of an entirely social, ahem...corporate construct and guess what? Consumers seem to bite! 🥶💯
Agreed! Because in the long run, creative directors are still at the whim of luxury conglomerates that have to meet a bottom line, whether they are celeb or no-names its still all about bringing home the bacon. And maybe cultural clout will get you there, but maybe it wont!
Exactly! I remember possibly Tom Ford who once stated "I'm not here to create art, but fashion to sell" he has known what a designer, ahem creative director stands for, no confusion and as we all know, Gucci or YSL are still highly profitable...remembering to well such headlines as "can Gucci be without a Tom Ford?" Clearly they can and it turns out that Mr. Ford can do without fashion just fine after his retirement, knowing that his namesake TF brand is essentially a money spinner for Estee Lauder because of his sensational beauty products, plus sexy parfums of course...one in 2017 called "Fucking Fabulous" and he knows why and so do today's conglomerates which want instant recognition, while consumers are still overhanging on the FOMO effect...simple as that, it's called instant gratification, superficial maybe, but equally highly profitable...so long 🎯💯
In a couple of seasons time, once the current creative directors are out and a new load of designers/celebs have taken their place, is anyone even going to remember who designed the current stuff thats in stores and on the runways? I think not. Post exiting/departing from a luxury brand, few creative directors have been able to attach their name to a certain brands era of clothing - such as Phoebe Philo at Celine and Tom Ford at Gucci - and I’m not sure the current cohort will hold the same amount of allure and attention as their predecessors. Will be very, very interesting to keep an eye on and see how long this new wave of creative directors last…
