I didn't know I was craving this, but I was. Despite what it may seem (in terms of use of paper and other materials), print media actually helps me reduce consumption: instead of trying to read everything, see everything, and know everything that's going on at all times, with print it feels easier to only read a section of that, but engage deeper with it. Someone on here published an article about book publishers as curators, and I think magazine editors can have the same role.
Agreed — there’s something so grounding about print media you just don't get with a screen, isn't there? It’s like it creates a natural boundary that digital rarely offers. Instead of endless scrolling and the pressure to keep up, print encourages you to slow down and engage more intentionally. It’s not just information — it’s storytelling, perspective, and sometimes even an escape.
YES! Needed to elaborate and read through. I love your writing and your reporting! This is an amazing Substack. I've been keeping tabs on this subject of the return of print because not only will I forever be a print magazine romantic, but it indeed seems they're finding their place again amidst algorithm saturation.
Very here for this renaissance. Print magazines (much like longer form content in general from the likes of Substack) give room for stories with context. It’s no surprise that when I see people join this platform, and frequent social platforms less often, they say they feel smarter as a result of getting back to reading. I think many of us are feeling burnt out and wanting to refuel our brains after being fed streams of bite sized digital content.
The print renaissance is definitely a reaction to digital fatigue and doomscrolling, and our brains (and eyeballs) will probably thank us for picking up physical media once again
This is so amazing and real! I miss the times where I would go out to buy print magazines and creating this whole vibe just to seat down and read it with calm and attention.

It’s an irreplaceable feeling!

We need to bring back IRL no screen print magazine time! It’s a must
